The Ultimate Guide to Doing A Juice Cleanse

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle balance can be challenging due to our environment and busy schedules. We often seek ways to restore our energy and feel healthy. Did you know that about 70% of your daily energy is spent digesting food? Consuming fresh juice instead of whole fruits and vegetables can give your digestive system a break and help your body absorb nutrients more easily. This break can help your body focus on healing and flushing out toxins and waste, which can improve your overall health. Our bodies have the power to heal themselves, but we need to give them a chance to do so. If we continue to feed them unhealthy and processed foods, we are not giving them the opportunity to keep us in optimal health.

PRIOR TO STARTING YOUR CLEANSE:

To have an optimal cleansing experience, it is recommended to follow healthy habits during the 2-3 days leading up to your program. The more prepared you are, the better your cleanse will be.

To purify your body before your cleanse, start each day with a glass of warm water with the juice of one lemon and a maximum of one-half teaspoon of cayenne (optional). This will help increase the rate of detoxification by opening the circulatory system and alkalizing bodily fluids.

It is also important to stay hydrated throughout the day with at least two liters of filtered non-carbonated water. Drinking water helps your cells eliminate toxins more easily, decreases tiredness, and reduces food cravings.

Eliminating wheat and refined starches like white bread, white rice, and pasta from your diet ahead of time will make it easier once your cleanse begins. Your body will thank you for it in the end! Keep in mind that you will have plenty of other cleanse-friendly foods to eat.

AVOID THESE Food as you prepare for your juice cleanse:

  • Alcohol and Nicotine

  • Meat and Seafood

  • Dairy and Eggs

  • Sugar and Processed foods

  • Wheat and refined carbohydrates (bread, white rice, pasta, etc.)

  • Caffeinated and diuretic drinks (green tea is a good substitute for coffee leading up to your cleanse)

ADD THESE foods as you prepare for your juice cleanse:

  • Steamed vegetables

  • Salads

  • Fruits

  • Smoothies (try and add a green vegetable like kale or spinach to your smoothies)

  • Fresh juices

  • Gluten-free grains like quinoa, amaranth and millet

DURING YOUR JUICE CLEANSE:

During your cleanse, you will receive six 16 oz juices each day. These juices are specially designed to provide the necessary nutrients to maintain energy throughout the process. It is important to remember the following:

  • Refrigerate the juices as soon as possible to ensure freshness.

  • Since our juices are unpasteurized, it is crucial that you start your cleanse the day it arrives. The shelf life of our juices is four days.

  • Give the juice a good shake to ensure you get all the vital nutrients it has to offer.

  • It may sound silly, but remember to chew your juice. Chewing mixes saliva with the juice, which allows your body to absorb and utilize the nutrients more easily.

HOW YOUR DAY WILL LOOK While Doing a Juice Cleanse:

Now you’re ready to drink your first juice! Starting in the morning, we recommend drinking your juices at intervals of about two to three hours and consuming your last juice, about two hours before bed. End your day right: At least an hour before bedtime, consume a cup or two of hot cleansing tea. Our juice cleanse is designed to replace meals and snacks, however, if this is your first cleansing experience, please feel free to grab a snack or two along the way. We recommended items from the list above should you feel the need to eat. Here's a clearer version of the text without any spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors:

If you're doing a longer cleanse, such as our 3-day cleanse, and you miss chewing things, you can add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to your juice an hour or so before drinking. This will create a jam-like texture while also increasing your protein intake. This is a great idea for super active people.

*If you ordered the additional wellness shots you can add them throughout the day as needed! They are great for a boost of energy if you find yourself feeling sluggish. I love putting Judge Judy (J.J.) in my warm water as the morning drink instead of just the lemon juice mentioned above.

To get the most out of your cleansing process, it's important to drink plenty of water in between juices. You should avoid alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine during this time. Depending on your body, you may experience some detox symptoms like headaches or fatigue.

It's important to keep yourself hydrated while cleansing. Drink at least eight glasses of filtered, non-carbonated water every day, and try herbal decaffeinated teas for a change. You should also get plenty of rest since cleansing can be tiring. Listen to your body and slow down if you need to.

During the cleansing process, your body releases accumulated toxins that may have built up over the years. It's essential to eliminate these toxins that are being released.

Additional WAYS TO RELEASE TOXINS While doing a jiuce cleanse:

  • Keeping your body free of toxins is essential for maintaining good health. Your skin is the largest cleansing organ in the body and plays a crucial role in eliminating toxins and waste. Sweating can help your skin eliminate more toxins and waste than the colon and kidneys combined. You can take a detoxification bath by soaking 1-2 cups of Epsom salt, mineral salts or sea salts for about 15 minutes. The Epsom salts draw lactic acid out of the muscle, and the sulfur elements help detoxify and draw the acid and toxins out of your body.

  • Another way to eliminate toxins is by spending about 30 minutes in a sauna. Therapeutic sweating stimulated by the sauna will help your skin eliminate toxins, acting as a third kidney.

  • Dry skin brushing is also an effective way to open up the pores of your skin and allow for optimal performance of your sweat glands. This can accentuate the process of eliminating acids from the cells in your body. Your skin can eliminate more than one pound of waste acid every day from your body, and dry brushing after a shower, bath, or sauna can be especially effective.

  • Breathing properly is often overlooked, but it is an essential factor for maintaining good health. Proper breathing can accelerate the removal of physical and emotional waste and will help give you relief and clarity. Breathing from the diaphragm can reduce anxiety and help remove the carbon dioxide from your respiratory system. Take a few seconds every day to relax and take a few deep breaths, and you'll notice the difference.

What to expect after you’ve completed a juice cleanse:

Congratulations on successfully completing your cleanse! Now, it's important to maintain and maximize its effects. To ease back into solid foods, we recommend drinking smoothies and eating small, juicy, watery fruits. Some people suggest waiting at least three days before reintroducing proteins and whole-wheat grains, but you should listen to your body and monitor how you feel.

During the days following your cleanse, you have the opportunity to identify any food sensitivities. If you suspect that you're allergic to something, gradually add it back to your diet and see if it triggers any negative reactions.

You're still in detox mode for a few days after ending your cleanse, so it's crucial to be mindful of what you eat and drink. Make sure to drink plenty of water and gradually reintroduce simple, whole foods like salads, smoothies, soups, and juices. Avoid processed foods and animal products. Optimal post-cleanse foods are the same as pre-cleanse diet suggestions, including steamed vegetables, salads, smoothies, fresh juices, and gluten-free grains like quinoa, amaranth, and millet.

Lastly, don't forget to give yourself a pat on the back for taking a step towards a cleaner, healthier lifestyle! However, please note that this product has not been pasteurized and may contain harmful bacteria that could cause illness in children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Considerations before starting a juice cleanse:

Fasting and cleansing are generally safe and can provide benefits for most individuals. However, some people may need to perform these activities under medical supervision or avoid them altogether. It is advisable to consult a healthcare professional before starting a juice fast, especially if you are unsure whether it is suitable for you.

If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, it is not recommended that you undergo a cleanse. Your body is already working hard, and a caloric deficit may not be safe.

Bonus mindfulness exercise to try:

If you want to be more mindful while eating, here are four simple steps to get started:

1. Reflect: Before you start eating, take a moment to consider how you feel. Are you feeling rushed? Stressed? Sad? Bored? Hungry? Distinguish between your wants and needs. Once you've taken this time to reflect, you can decide if you want to eat, what you want to eat, and how you want to eat.

2. Sit down: Don't eat while moving around. Instead, sit down! When you multitask, you are less likely to enjoy your food. It's also challenging to keep track of how much you are eating when you're snacking on the go.

3. Turn off the TV (and any other screens): Have you ever looked away from your phone, tablet, or computer only to find that all the food is gone? These distractions make us less aware of what and how much we are eating.

4. Express gratitude - before starting to eat! Before you start your meal, take a moment to show appreciation for the effort that went into providing your meal. When you pause and think about how amazing our bodies are, you can truly appreciate how grateful we should be for this time on Earth. Breathing, eating, and moving our bodies are simple privileges. So give yourself a hug or a pat on the back.
